Winemaking Winemakers work with dry-farmed bushvine vineyards planted over 50 years ago, with deep roots delivering intensely concentrated fruit. The grapes ripen slowly at 600–700 meters above sea level, where cool mountain air preserves natural acidity and freshness. Fermentation is followed by aging in 30% new, high-toast French oak, which imparts layers of spice and structure without overwhelming the fruit. The final wine reflects its origin, with fine tannins, vibrant red fruit, and a subtle herbal edge from the surrounding fynbos.
Vintage The 2024 vintage arrived amid a dry, stable growing season in Piekenierskloof, where elevation and diurnal shifts provided a consistent ripening rhythm. With no significant weather extremes, old bushvines flourished in well-drained sandy soils, producing compact clusters. Cooling breezes extended hang time and ensured a measured, unrushed harvest. In the cellar, new high-toast French oak was used sparingly, framing the vintage’s balanced structure and purity.
Pairing Logic This bold and expressive Pinotage is a natural partner for grilled or roasted red meats, smoky barbecue, and richly spiced dishes. Its layered notes of blackberry, coffee, and oak shine alongside charred vegetables, earthy grains, and umami-rich sauces. For a vegetarian pairing, try lentils or mushrooms with a touch of smoked paprika to echo the wine’s dark fruit core and subtle mocha finish.
